Context
The prompt of this hackathon was “How might We design a product to better service UW community " We started the process by researching what are the main pain points that students at UW are facing. Through our brainstorm, commuting is always a pain among students.
Problem
Research shows that over 56 percent of college students own a car. However, as on campus parking is always a pain and gas prices are increasing this year, students who live off campus are looking for peers to carpool to school.
Through our real life experiences as students, most schoolmates live in different areas and have different class schedules. Some live in the same area but may not be willing to share a ride.
It’s a pain to find ride-share participants and we lack an interior channel for students to find peers who are willing to share rides and live in the same area.
Solution
We created Commute Pal, an interior mobile application aimed at matching ride-sharing commuters for students at UW.
